Research Engineer

Charalambos Tsioutis is a Research Engineer on the ERC-funded URANUS project. He works at the KIOS CoE and has a background in Physics and Data Science. His research involves traffic simulation, data-driven modeling, and software development.
He is the developer of a published UAV-based sensing plugin for the SUMO traffic simulation platform, enabling the integration of aerial traffic data into microscopic simulation environments. His role in URANUS includes calibrating traffic models using optimization and machine learning techniques to combine UAV and loop detector data, improving the accuracy of urban traffic simulations. Additionally, he is involved in traffic data engineering, including the acquisition, synchronization, and cleaning of both aerial and ground-based traffic data.
